In recent news, they are considering to restrict Amsterdam coffeeshops that sell cannabis to residents only. That would mean tourist would no longer be able to purchase cannabis at coffeeshops in Amsterdam. This topic has been discussed in the past in the Netherlands and a Weed-pass of some sort is required and has been implemented in some city’s outside of Amsterdam a while back.

The topic of Amsterdam has come back up again because they noticed that many of tourist that visited Amsterdam after the first Lockdown in Spring 2020 came for the cannabis coffeeshops.

They say that they want to attract different types of tourist to Amsterdam. The type that visit museums and not just coming for weed and partying.

They’ve also have been discussing moving the Red Light District out of the city center and into a new twin tower type facility.

What are your thoughts on all this??? Leave a comment.

Thanks for watching!

  1. I personally think that they should start by looking into lowering the amount of bars & pub's before they start banning tourists from purchasing from coffeeshops, AFAIK most of the trouble is caused by tourists drinking alcohol but I do think that Amsterdam has to many coffeeshops, sometimes they're literally next door to each other & quality isn't always the best🤷🏻‍♂️The street sellers will just end up being the middle man for tourists looking to buy from coffeeshops, I personally could go to Amsterdam & not have to purchase from any coffeeshop & still be ok for product but for most people it's not a option, hopefully it doesn't come into affect🙏🏻

  2. That would be absolutely tragic!… I dont see why?… people come, they smoke causing no problems, there is a wonderful vibe, no violence,no crime, no hate just love and respect and everybody is awesome with one another… Amsterdam is truely an example to the world… there is not a city in the world that carries that same magic….

  3. We come every year. When we come we go to the coffee shops but also the tourist bits. Boats, museums, parks and zoo. Closing the coffee shops to tourists will stop a lot of them from coming as they will go to other destinations you can now smoke at. Barcelona Ibiza etc. I haven’t never known a smoker cause crime. Will be the hard drugs and alcohol. Will be gutted if they do this
