We went on a trip with the whole family! We stayed a night at the SS Rotterdam. A cruise ship from the fifties, that now lies in the harbour of Rotterdam and is a wonderful hotel!!!

  1. This ship is very special. It's one of only four, over 200 m long, still existing Transatlantic ocean liners from the 20'th century. (There were hundreds of them). They were ships built to transport people between Europe and America befoe the airplanes took over. We have the Queen Mary (1936-67) in Long Beach, California, also a hotel/museum ship, and two with an unsafe future, the SS United States (1952-69) in Philadelphia and the MS Queen Elizabeth 2 (1969-2008) in Dubai.

  2. Hi there. I live in Cornwall U.K and love ships and shipping and was wondering Karen. Would the SS Rotterdam be a good location to watch large ships coming into Rotterdam and leaving, also is there much to see and do locally in Rotterdam for my wife also ? Lovely film , you all seem so happy, lovely family X

  3. My parents and I travelled on the Rotterdam in 1968. I was 7 years old. My Mom was afraid to fly. I still have a souvenir from the boat. It is a white replica of the captain's steering wheel (I think!) and hangs on a green ribbon. We also travelled on the S.S. France. The menu had such a beautiful picture on the cover that my Mom asked if she could buy a menu. They gave her one free. She kept it in an expensive green frame for 50 years. It got discolored, but I still have it.

  4. Thank you for sharing your experience aboard! It's as close as I'm going to get, especially with COVID-19. It's so cool seeing another ocean liner restored. We have the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, California; the SS Rotterdam IN Rotterdam; the QE2 in Dubai; and hopefully the SS United States in New York soon. Have you ever considered visiting the Queen Mary? I'd love to see your video aboard it. I love the way you play the role of sailing. But you got through that rough sea day. LOL. Hello from sunny Southern California.
